In response to significant egg shortages and soaring prices, Rosemary Farm, a century-old family-owned establishment in Santa Maria, is donating nearly 300,000 eggs to assist those affected by recent wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Collaborating with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the nonprofit organization Gather For Good, the farm is distributing approximately 270,000 eggs to residents who lost their homes in the Eaton and Palisades fires. An additional 55,000 eggs are being provided to firefighters and other emergency personnel.
Some of these eggs will also be utilized by the LA bakery Winter Fate Bakes to produce birthday cakes for children displaced by the fires.
The surge in egg prices across the U.S. is largely attributed to a bird flu outbreak, leading to the culling of entire flocks when the virus is detected. This, coupled with rising feed, fuel, and labor costs, has contributed to the current egg shortage and price increase.
