Lakeside, CA – A weekend operation by U.S. Border Patrol agents led to a significant drug and weapons bust at a property in Lakeside, resulting in the seizure of over 5 pounds of fentanyl, more than 148 pounds of methamphetamine, a rifle, and 39 fighting roosters. Authorities also arrested three individuals in connection with the case.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects face multiple charges, including transporting and selling controlled substances, possession of controlled substances for sale, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the seized narcotics and weapons have been taken into their custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
The presence of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid known to be 100 times more powerful than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin, highlights the dangers posed by the illegal drug trade. Law enforcement officials continue to emphasize the risks of fentanyl exposure, which has contributed to a growing number of overdose deaths nationwide.
In addition to the narcotics, authorities discovered 39 fighting roosters on the property, indicating possible involvement in illegal cockfighting operations. While no additional charges related to animal cruelty have been announced, officials stated that investigations into all aspects of the operation are ongoing.
Further details regarding the identities of the arrested individuals and potential court proceedings have not yet been released.
Authorities urge anyone with additional information related to the case to contact the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
