San Diego, California – San Diego police are searching for the driver of a Mercedes-Benz involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed a 36-year-old man riding an electric bicycle early Saturday morning in the Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood.
The collision occurred at 1:25 a.m. in the 6900 block of Balboa Avenue. According to the San Diego Police Department, the bicyclist was traveling westbound in the bike lane while the vehicle was moving in the same direction in the No. 2 lane. At some point, the cyclist veered left into the vehicle’s path, leading to the collision.
The driver fled the scene, and the victim was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.
San Diego Police’s Traffic Division is investigating the incident and is searching for a light-colored, possibly gray, 2016-2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan. Authorities believe the car has front-end damage and is missing its grille or other front body parts.
